The name Armani is one that you would be familiar with even if you didn’t know a ton about the fashion world. The Italian fashion house was started in the Seventies by Giorgio Armani, and is now known for its many sub-labels which all offer different levels of fashion from haute-couture to home décor. Gun violence is a problem that plagues much of the world, especially urban and low-income areas. Peter Thum, the creator of Ethos water, is the mastermind behind Liberty United, a company he started in response to the boys and men he met while working on the Ethos project in Africa. In an attempt to reduce the amount of assault rifles and small arms around the world Thum started Fonderie 47. The mission of this earlier company was to reduce the presence of guns by recycling them into jewelry and art. In 2013 Thum, at the urging of his wife, expanded this program to the US and started the new company Liberty United.

Liberty United and Fonderie 47 have teamed up with world class artists like Adrian Glessing and James De Givenchy. Liberty United’s most recent partnership is with Armani Exchange, who is selling a bracelet made from these recycled guns. Each bracelet is outfitted with the serial number of the gun that went into making it and the Liberty United Motto “Remade in the USA”.

It is amazing to think that this simple, Torc inspired bracelet, was once a gun. It is comforting to know that the proceeds from these purchases go towards funding programs that help get guns of the streets, reducing the possibility of gun violence. Liberty United also prides itself on being made in the USA meaning job creation, making it an all around great company.
